A C4 usually has a certain way it needs to be jumped i.e., you can't just attach the cables. Look in your owners manual. Next to the battery ('86 conv) is the jump start junction block. This picture is one of the wires that goes to the block ( I pulled it up for the picture). While cleaning the connections . Open the Hood on your 88 Vette. Right Below the battery tray is a Fusible Link Junction post. See if any of them are burnt or smoked. Orange Fusible links on my 87 there. .
I want to grab power for my new accessories, fans headlight upgrade and a few others upgrades I have in mind. My question to You guys is Where is the best place to tap into . at the junction box one of the wire starts to smoke and burn in two when i hook the battery up. Sound like that wire is shorted to ground somewhere. You will need to identify that . It is there on all C4s. and is the cause of fires when it gets corroded! Ask PatrickLT4 (if he was around here). C4 General Discussion - PSA: Check your Battery Box For Corrosion - Was taking my car apart this winter for some fun routine busy work and decided to tackle the rust and corrosion from the battery acid that had built on this car over her long sleepy years. Well a C4 usually has a Junction box behind the battery. A C4 usually has a certain way it needs to be jumped i.e., you can't just attach the cables. Look in your owners manual.
Next to the battery ('86 conv) is the jump start junction block. This picture is one of the wires that goes to the block ( I pulled it up for the picture). While cleaning the connections on the block (that'll be a funny story why) , this wires' inline connector crumbled in my fingers.
Open the Hood on your 88 Vette. Right Below the battery tray is a Fusible Link Junction post. See if any of them are burnt or smoked. Orange Fusible links on my 87 there. 88 should be the same. Use a 12 Volt test light or Digital DVM to make sure each 1 is good if unsure. Best to start here before climbing under the dashboard.
